ANDROMEDA (GABRIELLE CAVALLARO)
EDITED BY JESSICA STEWART

DESCRIPTION: 9x12" Photobook and Website
ROLE: Editor, Model, Creative Consultant, Design assistance
From the photographer: ANDROMEDA is a compendium of experiential portraits driven by individualistic expressions. The 9x12” photobook and web-based outcomes navigate through imagery produced both digitally and on Polaroid film. In effort to continue the collaborative process, I interviewed each individual to find their inspirations, and these responses form the typology of thoughts throughout the book. Bold approaches to color and light coalesce the thread of emotive and atmospheric qualities across the work in order to speak to one’s essence, and the universe within.
PROCESS

In October 2020, Gabrielle approached me about modeling for the project. As classmates in an Advanced Projects course, we started discussing where she wanted to take the project, and I helped suggest we could evolve this to her master's project. She was looking to have a magazine/book hybrid, and some sort of visual journal. The project evolved many times, into finally a 9x12" photobook, that was also inspired by magazine layouts. [Thinking of different iterations i.e. a portfolio piece??]

We began editing considered images for the project [can insert numerical value here]

While producing new work for ANDROMEDA, I attended meetings with her commitee chair in order to help narrow the edit even further, and find the final working set for the book.

Gabrielle's initial idea for the book structure would be two parallel tracks; one sequence of more ambiguous and atmospheric images, and the second would be the more straightforward portraits and magazine style “spreads”, interspersed throughout that sequence.

We decided on sequencing from person to person, and my goal was to find a way to make each person connect to the next.

I was able to connect Gab even further with designers to help with typography, placements, and graphic elements. I was also able to help finalize the details within InDesign, and assist in editing the sequence where necessary.
